Recent Exhibitions:

Featured here are art quilts designed by textile artist Jean M. Judd and a listing of where they have been exhibited across the US. Most of these shows and exhibits required the work to be juried into the show so I am very proud of the fact that my work "made the cut" and was selected by each juror. Listing is in alphabetical order by title of artwork.

Art Deco #1 (2009), Jean M. Judd, Textile Artist

-13th Annual Lines Into Shapes Art Exhibition and Sale in Estes Park, CO at the Art Center. September 18 to October 4, 2009. This exhibit includes art of all media. Artists reception September 18th, 2009 from 5 to 7pm.

-Amery Regional Medical Center, Amery, Wisconsin. May 3 to June 25, 2010.

-The Minnesota Textile Center exhibition Focal Point in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Artwork selected for inclusion in the exhibit also includes: Stained Glass Mosaic #1. The exhibit ran from February 23, 2012 and through March 17, 2012.

Art Deco #2 (2009), Jean M. Judd, Textile Artist

--This piece is a diminitive 12"x12". It is densely hand quilted with tiny stitches alternating direction in each small division. The wide binding is made from hand dyed fabrics created by the artist. It blends perfectly with the commercial fabrics in the body of the piece.
This piece was up for auction on the Studio Art Quilt Associates web site September 10, 2009. This is a reverse auction and features many art quilts from some of the biggest names in the art quilt world. Select pieces, including this one, were on view at the International Quilt Festival (IQF) Chicago April 17-19, 2009 in the Studio Art Quilt Associates booth. The IQF is in Rosemont, Illinois at the Donald E. Stephens Center.

--Art Deco #2 was also be included in the showing of 83 art quilts for the upcoming auction at the Art & Excellence Conference of SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) in Athens, Ohio from May 21 through 24, 2009.
These pieces then traveled to Long Beach, California for the International Quilt Festival (IQF) held July 23-26, 2009.

Each piece will be 12"x12". This is a great opportunity to acquire a wonderful piece of art to add to your collection or to start a collection of fiber artwork. **228 textile artworks sold, raising over $47,350.

--Included in the 2009 Annual Juried Art Competition at the South Arkansas Arts Center in El Dorado, Arkansas. The exhibition was from July 2-30, 2009 and featured 2D and 3D fine art media. The juror for this exhibition is Alfred J. Walker, art broker and gallery owner of Walker-Cunningham Gallery in Boston, MA.

-The Wichita Center for the Arts has announced textile artist Jean M. Judd of Cushing, Wisconsin as one of the artists selected for inclusion in the National Fiber Directions Exhibition 2013. Artwork selected for inclusion in the exhibit includes: Choir of Angel Tapestry and Flaming Grapes.

Exhibit juror Pauline Verbeek-Cowart, Chair of the Fiber program at Kansas City Art Institute, has selected a diverse range of artworks from the artists’ submissions. The exhibit opened on April 5, 2013 and was open through May 19, 2013. The artist reception and awards presentation was on April 5, 2013 from 5pm to 7pm at the Wichita Center for the Arts. --Northern National Fine Art Competition at the Nicolet College Art Gallery in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Juror is Larry McNeil of Boise State College. Exhibition dates are July 27 to September 10, 2010. ** Won one of four NNAC Donor awards.**

--Mixed Sampler Quilt Guild Show, Siren, WI: October 9-10, 2010. General exhibit quilt.

--Mesa Contemporary Arts’ 32nd Annual Contemporary Crafts exhibition in Mesa, Arizona at the Mesa Arts Center: January 21 – March 20, 2011. Juror of the exhibition was Perry Price, Assistant Curator of Exhibitions and Collections at the Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton, Massachusetts. Mr. Price selected 47 artworks by 37 artists out of 287 artworks submitted for consideration. The opening reception was January 21, 2011 from 6 to 8pm at the Mesa Arts Center, 1 East Main Street, Mesa, AZ 85211.

--Wichita National All Media Craft Exhibition 2011 at the Wichita Center for the Arts in Wichita, Kansas August 26 through October 16, 2011. The artist reception and awards presentation was August 26, 2011. Juror for the exhibit was Chris Stanley, Distinguished Professor of the Ceramic Arts at Penn State University. --Selected for the new book by Dr. Sandra Sider, THE STUDIO QUILT, No.6: STATE OF THE ART. This publication features 60 studio quilt artists and is available for purchase on Amazon starting in November of 2011. Contaminated Water #1 is featured on page 10.

--The Elk River Area Arts Alliance has announced textile artist Jean M. Judd of Cushing, Wisconsin as one of the artists selected for inclusion in the Arts in Harmony 2012 International Juried Art exhibition. Contaminated Water #1 (shown above) is one of two pieces juried into this exhibition. This is Judd’s fifth time being included in this prestigious exhibition. The pieces will be displayed in a vertical orientation for this exhibition.
Exhibit juror Peter Spooner, Curator of the Tweed Museum of Art at the University of Minnesota – Duluth has selected 161 artworks from a submission pool of 570. The exhibit opened on February 6, 2012 and ran through March 29, 2012.

--Midland Arts Association 2011 Spring Juried Art exhibition to be held at the Museum of the Southwest in Midland, Texas. Her artwork, Contaminated Water #2 (Pond Scum), is one of the artworks selected for the exhibit. The juror for the exhibition was illustrator Leslie D’Allesandro Hawes of Midland, Texas and Tucson, Arizona. This program is partially supported by the Texas Commission on the Arts and the Arts Assembly of Midland. The exhibition will feature 74 artworks selected from a submisssion pool of 257 pieces. The exhibition opens on March 10, 2011 with an opening reception and awards presentation.of over $4,000 in monetary awards to exhibiting artists. **This artwork won one of 23 Juror Awards presented at the opening reception.** The exhibition closes on April 10, 2011. --Billboard Art Project 2012 in Detroit, Michigan from May 28 to June 24, 2012. This is a feature exhibit on a electronic billboard that runs 24/7 showcasing artwork by artists from across the US as well as internationally. Textile artwork from Ms. Judd includes: Contaminated Water #1, Contaminated Water #2: Pond Scum, Contaminated Water #3: Sludge, Scribble #1: Dream Weaver, Sound Waves #1 and Sound Waves #2: White Noise. In order to fit the parameters of the billboard, the artwork that is displayed is usally a detail image, not the entire piece. --The Foster Tanner Fine Arts Gallery in Tallahassee, Florida has selected for inclusion in the Pinnacle 2012 National Juried Art Competition: Contaminated Water #2: Pond Scum (detail shown above). This exhibit was open to artists residing in United States, working in 2 and 3-dimensional mediums. Artworks were selected from a pool of submissions by exhibit juror Steven Bernard Jones. The exhibition opened on September 7, 2012 and was open through September 28, 2012. The artist reception and awards presentation was on September 7, 2012 from 6 to 8pm. The address of the gallery is:

--Arts in Harmony 2011: 16th Annual International Fine Art Exhibition at the Sherburne County Government Center, Elk River, Minnesota: February 7, 2011 to March 24, 2011. The jurors for the exhibition were Lyndell King, director and chief curator at the Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota, and Barbara Schultz, developer of Minneapolis College of Art and Design’s (MCAD) current comic art curriculum and MCAD’s Distant Learning comic art courses. They selected 220 artworks from a pool of 855. The opening reception and awards presentation was February 13, 2011 from 1 to 3:30pm. Over $10,000 in awards will be presented along with a jurors' presentation on the selection process. The Arts Alliance web site has more information about the exhibition as well as the organization.

--The Midland Arts Association 2012 Spring Juried Art exhibition held at the Museum of the Southwest in Midland, Texas. Exhibit juror Robert Jessop, Professor in the College of Visual Arts and Design at the University of North Texas, has selected 73 artworks from a submission pool of 213 pieces. Mediums included in the jury pool were oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media, fabric, drawing, print making, photography, pastel and 3 dimensional artwork. The exhibit opened on March 29, 2012 and was open through April, 2012. An artist reception and awards presentation was March 29, 2012 from 7 to 9pm. The juror for the exhibition was Michael R. Grauer, Curator of Art at the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in Canyon, Texas. Oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media, fabric, drawing, print making, photography, pastel, and 3 dimensional artwork were submitted for consideration.

The exhibition opened on March 28, 2013. An opening reception and awards presentation were on March 28, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm. Over $4,000 in monetary awards were given to exhibiting artists. The exhibition closed on April 28, 2013.

--The Academy of Fine Arts in Lynchburg, Virginia has announced textile artist Jean M. Judd of Cushing, Wisconsin as one of the artists selected for inclusion in the 2013 Academy of Fine Arts Annual National Juried Art Exhibition. Artwork selected for inclusion in the exhibit includes: Contaminated Water #5: Mutated Sand Dollars, Rusted Fish.

Exhibit juror David Dodge Lewis, Barger-Barclay Professor of Fine Arts at Hampden-Sydney College, has selected 50 artworks from the 390 artists’ submissions of paintings, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, fiber, glass, ceramics, wood, metal, and mixed media artworks. The exhibit opens on April 5, 2013 and is open through April 27, 2013. -- 2012 Gateway to Imagination National Juried Art Competition was held at the Farmington Museum at Gateway Park in Farmington, New Mexico. Jean's artwork, Diamond #3: Block on a Rock, was one of the artworks selected for the exhibit. The exhibition will feature 98 artworks selected from 334 submissions. **Won 1 of 6 Honorable Mention Awards at the artist reception on May 19, 2012.**
The juror for this exhibition was figurative painter Hugh Wilson. Mr. Wilson lives and paints in communities worldwide for several months at a time, developing intimate relationships with his subjects. - 2010 SAQA Reverse Auction submission. Detail image of Medici #1 can be seen here. The auction started online on September 20, 2010 and ran for 3 weeks. Each week a selection of art quilts by some of the top art quilters in the world were offered for sale starting at $750. Each day the price dropped for any unsold pieces until the minimum bid price of $75 is reached. **Over 266 art quilts sold .**

--Juried into Not Your Grandmothers Quilt Show at the Elk River Art Alliance Gallery in Elk River, Minnesota. Exhibit dates July 9, 2009 to August 29, 2009. Artist reception was July 16, 2009 from 5pm to 9pm.

--Featured in the Fall 2009 SAQA Journal on page 10, in my article Marketing and the artist.

--Featured in the Summer 2009 ARTnews magazine, Artist Directory on page 139. This edition of the magazine was on newsstands for July and August 2009 and features profiles of the world's top 200 art collectors.

--2010 Gateway to Imagination: A National Juried Art Competition at the Farmington Museum at Gateway Park in Farmington, New Mexico. The exhibition dates were May 7, 2010 through July 10, 2010. The artist reception and awards presentation was Saturday, May 15th from 6pm to 9pm. Juror Caroline Brooks presented a lecture on the exhibition May 15, 2010.

The Elk River Area Arts Alliance has announced textile artist Jean M. Judd of Cushing, Wisconsin as one of the artists selected for inclusion in the Arts in Harmony 2013 International Juried Art exhibition. Artwork selected for inclusion in the exhibit includes: Scribble #2: Black Pathways. This is Judd’s sixth year being included in this prestigious exhibit.

Exhibit juror Curt Pederson, Curator of Exhibits and Collections at the American Swedish Institute, Minneapolis has selected 168 artworks from a submission pool of 1000 artworks. The exhibit opens on February 4, 2013 and is open through March 28, 2013. The artist reception and awards presentation (over $10,000) is on February 10, 2013 from 1 to 3:30pm. This billboard is located right behind a Citgo Station on Peachtree Road NE. The board faces north, so you will see it while driving southbound right around 2064 Peachtree Road NE. The images will change on the billboard every 6 to 10 seconds depending on the local department of motor vehicle regulations.

--Mesa Contemporary Arts’ 31st Annual Contemporary Crafts exhibition in Mesa, Arizona at the Mesa Arts Center: January 22 – March 14, 2010. Juror for this exhibition was Jane Sauer, owner of Jane Sauer Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. 52 artworks from 42 artists were selected from a field of 357. The opening reception was January 22, 2010.

--SAAC (South Arkansas Arts Center) 2010 Annual Juried Fine Art Competition July 2 to July 30, 2010. The exhibit is at the South Arkansas Arts Center in El Dorado, Arkansas. The artist reception and awards presentations were July 17, 2010 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. Juror of this exhibition was David Houston, chief curator of the Ogden Museum. Mr. Houston selected 38 artworks from 347 submitted pieces. My artwork was the only art quilt in the exhibition.

--33rd Annual Contemporary Crafts Exhibition in Mesa, Arizona at the Mesa Arts Center. This is Judd’s third consecutive year being included in this exhibition.
This exhibition highlights the finest in contemporary crafts from around the country and is a benchmark of innovation and quality produced within traditional craft forms such as ceramics, fibers, basketry, metals, wood, glass, jewelry, paper making and book arts. Fifty artworks by thirty-eight artists were selected from a pool of 242 submissions by exhibition juror Katie A. Lee, Assistant Director of the Center of Craft, Creativity & Design at UNC Asheville, North Carolina.
The exhibition opened on January 27, 2012 and was open through March 18, 2012. The artist reception and awards presentation was on January 27, 2012 from 6 to 8pm.

--Stained Glass Mosaic #2 was one of over 251 featured pieces in the Studio Art Quilt Associates Reverse Auction which started November 10, 2008. There were three consecutive auctions. The second auction started on November 18, 2008 and the third on November 23, 2008.
Many of the art quilts up for auction were on display at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas from October 30 to November 2, 2008 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. This piece was not exhibited at any other venue.

--Academy of Fine Arts Juried Exhibition in Lynchburg, VA. April 4 – April 28, 2008. -- NQA June 2008 Little Quilt Auction, Columbus, Ohio. One of 185 little quilts auctioned off over the 3 days that helped raise $16,170.50 for the Grants Program of NQA (The National Quilting Association, Inc). This was the largest amount ever raised. This little gem has now found a new home while also supporting a wonderful organization.
