Recent Exhibitions:

Featured here are art quilts designed by textile artist Jean M. Judd and a listing of where they have been exhibited across the US. Most of these shows and exhibits required the work to be juried into the show so I am very proud of the fact that my work "made the cut" and was selected by each juror.

Art Deco #1 (2009), Jean M. Judd, Textile Artist

-Amery Regional Medical Center, Amery, Wisconsin. May 3 to June 25, 2010.

-13th Annual Lines Into Shapes Art Exhibition and Sale in Estes Park, CO at the Art Center. September 18 to October 4, 2009. This exhibit includes art of all media. Artists reception September 18th, 2009 from 5 to 7pm.

Art Deco #2 (2009), Jean M. Judd, Textile Artist

This piece is a diminitive 12"x12". It is densely hand quilted with tiny stitches alternating direction in each small division. The wide binding is made from hand dyed fabrics created by the artist. It blends perfectly with the commercial fabrics in the body of the piece.

This piece was up for auction on the Studio Art Quilt Associates web site September 10, 2009. This is a reverse auction and features many art quilts from some of the biggest names in the art quilt world. Select pieces, including this one, were on view at the International Quilt Festival (IQF) Chicago April 17-19, 2009 in the Studio Art Quilt Associates booth. The IQF is in Rosemont, Illinois at the Donald E. Stephens Center.

Art Deco #2 was also be included in the showing of 83 art quilts for the upcoming auction at the Art & Excellence Conference of SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) in Athens, Ohio from May 21 through 24, 2009.

These pieces then traveled to Long Beach, California for the International Quilt Festival (IQF) held July 23-26, 2009.

Each piece will be 12"x12". This is a great opportunity to acquire a wonderful piece of art to add to your collection or to start a collection of fiber artwork. **228 textile artworks sold, raising over $47,350.

The juror for this exhibition is Alfred J. Walker, art broker and gallery owner of Walker-Cunningham Gallery in Boston, MA.

--Mesa Contemporary Arts’ 32nd Annual Contemporary Crafts exhibition in Mesa, Arizona at the Mesa Arts Center: January 21 – March 20, 2011. Juror of the exhibition is Perry Price, Assistant Curator of Exhibitions and Collections at the Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton, Massachusetts. Mr. Price selected 47 artworks by 37 artists out of 287 artworks submitted for consideration. The opening reception is January 21, 2011 from 6 to 8pm at the Mesa Arts Center, 1 East Main Street, Mesa, AZ 85211.

--Wichita National All Media Craft Exhibition 2011 at the Wichita Center for the Arts in Wichita, Kansas August 26 through October 16, 2011. The artist reception and awards presentation was August 26, 2011. Juror for the exhibit is Chris Stanley, Distinguished Professor of the Ceramic Arts at Penn State University. --Midland Arts Association 2011 Spring Juried Art exhibition to be held at the Museum of the Southwest in Midland, Texas. Her artwork, Contaminated Water #2 (Pond Scum), is one of the artworks selected for the exhibit. The juror for the exhibition was illustrator Leslie D’Allesandro Hawes of Midland, Texas and Tucson, Arizona. This program is partially supported by the Texas Commission on the Arts and the Arts Assembly of Midland. The exhibition will feature 74 artworks selected from a submisssion pool of 257 pieces. The exhibition opens on March 10, 2011 with an opening reception and awards presentation.of over $4,000 in monetary awards to exhibiting artists. **This artwork won one of 23 Juror Awards presented at the opening reception.** The exhibition closes on April 10, 2011. --Arts in Harmony 2011: 16th Annual International Fine Art Exhibition at the Sherburne County Government Center, Elk River, Minnesota: February 7, 2011 to March 24, 2011. The jurors for the exhibition were Lyndell King, director and chief curator at the Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota, and Barbara Schultz, developer of Minneapolis College of Art and Design’s (MCAD) current comic art curriculum and MCAD’s Distant Learning comic art courses. They selected 220 artworks from a pool of 855. The opening reception and awards presentation is February 13, 2011 from 1 to 3:30pm. Over $10,000 in awards will be presented along with a jurors' presentation on the selection process. The Arts Alliance web site has more information about the exhibition as well as the organization.

- 2010 SAQA Reverse Auction submission. Detail image of Medici #1 can be seen here. The auction started online on September 20, 2010 and ran for 3 weeks. Each week a selection of art quilts by some of the top art quilters in the world were offered for sale starting at $750. Each day the price dropped for any unsold pieces until the minimum bid price of $75 is reached. **Over 266 art quilts sold .**

--2010 Gateway to Imagination: A National Juried Art Competition at the Farmington Museum at Gateway Park in Farmington, New Mexico. The exhibition dates were May 7, 2010 through July 10, 2010. The artist reception and awards presentation were Saturday, May 15th from 6pm to 9pm. Juror Caroline Brooks presentrf a lecture on the exhibition May 15, 2010.

--Pinnacle 2011 National Juried Art Competition at the Foster Tanner Fine Arts Gallery in Tallahassee, Florida (http://www.famuart.com/fostertannergallery.htm). The exhibition opened on August 29, 2011 and ran through September 30, 2011. The artist reception and awards presentation was on September 2, 2011 from 6 to 8pm. This exhibit was open to artists residing in United States, working in 2 and 3-dimensional mediums. Forty five artworks were selected from a pool of 203 submissions by exhibit juror Chucha Barber, Chief Executive Officer of the Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science.

Scribble #2 (Black Pathways) (2009), Jean M. Judd, Textile Artist

--Mesa Contemporary Arts’ 31st Annual Contemporary Crafts exhibition in Mesa, Arizona at the Mesa Arts Center: January 22 – March 14, 2010. Juror for this exhibition was Jane Sauer, owner of Jane Sauer Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. 52 artworks from 42 artists were selected from a field of 357. The opening reception was January 22, 2010.

--SAAC (South Arkansas Arts Center) 2010 Annual Juried Fine Art Competition July 2 to July 30, 2010. The exhibit is at the South Arkansas Arts Center in El Dorado, Arkansas. The artist reception and awards presentations were July 17, 2010 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. Juror of this exhibition is David Houston, chief curator of the Ogden Museum. Mr. Houston selected 38 artworks from 347 submitted pieces. My artwork was the only art quilt in the exhibition.

--Nineteenth Annual Juried Art Exhibition at the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota August 2 - 29, 2011. This exhibit was open to artists residing in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota, working in 2 and 3-dimensional mediums. Thirty seven artworks were selected from a pool of 91 submissions by exhibit juror James Klueg, Professor of Art and Head of Department of Art and Design at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Stained Glass Mosaic #2 (2008), Jean M. Judd, Textile Artist

Stained Glass Mosaic #2 was one of over 251 featured pieces in the Studio Art Quilt Associates Reverse Auction which started November 10, 2008. There were three consecutive auctions. The second auction started on November 18, 2008 and the third on November 23, 2008.

Many of the art quilts up for auction were on display at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas from October 30 to November 2, 2008 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. This piece was not exhibited at any other venue.

--An image of Stained Glass Mosaic #2 has been selected to be included in the Lark Books upcoming publication, 500 Art Quilts which will be released January of 2010. Over 2000 art quilts were submitted for possible inclusion in the book. This piece is featured on page 262.

Stained Glass Mosaic #3 (2008), Jean M. Judd, Textile Artist

--Academy of Fine Arts Juried Exhibition in Lynchburg, VA. April 4 – April 28, 2008. -- NQA June 2008 Little Quilt Auction, Columbus, Ohio. One of 185 little quilts auctioned off over the 3 days that helped raise $16,170.50 for the Grants Program of NQA (The National Quilting Association, Inc). This was the largest amount ever raised. This little gem has now found a new home while also supporting a wonderful organization.
